Upgrade power supply for HP ProDesk 400 G5 MT
Systems present power supply:
L08261-002
Should either of these PSUs function?
L76557-001
942332-001
The L76557-001 seems to be a more suitable option.
My setup uses a 3-cable, 7-pin connector:
I discovered this information in another eBay ad.
I'm planning to install a GPU and require higher wattage with an 8-pin connector.
Would that be feasible?
Sorry, I'm a bit puzzled by your request. The part numbers are listed as hyperlinks. It's an HP computer with an HP power supply. I couldn't locate an OEM page for the power supplies. The cpumedic links provide the clearest connector details and dimensions of the power supplies I've found so far. The L08261-002 model came directly from the power supply in my tower.
Even with the correct connectors for the motherboard and a new graphics card, a power supply that only has a one-year warranty is likely not worth it when compared to high-quality ATX PSUs from Tier-A manufacturers, some of which offer at least a decade of coverage.
Slim line HP and Dell models were not built for high-power GPUs, which explains their limited capacity. These are meant for everyday office use, not for gaming.
If you require a more powerful GPU for gaming or rendering, the best choice is to look for a replacement system that allows enough space for a standard ATX PSU. This doesn’t have to be a brand-new unit.
There are many used systems that could serve as a solid foundation for a stronger setup, avoiding the issues of small, inexpensive, unreliable replacements with only a year’s warranty.
If that questionable new PSU fails and ruins your GPU, you’ll regret not investing in a more durable option with a longer warranty. Consider selling your old machine and upgrading instead.
This PC serves as a specialized CCTV setup. It operates efficiently most of the time, requiring only the power of a dedicated GPU when motion is detected and data needs processing. I intend to install a 1660 TI or a 1080 equivalent card for object recognition. Additionally, the L76557-001 is an authentic HP PSU.
The LXun link I followed from the original posting shows only 1 year's warranty. If this is a genuine HP power supply I'm surprised the warranty isn't much longer, plus the price of only $66 makes it of questionable quality.
Was the PC supplied as part of the dedicated CCTV system or pressed into service at a later date?
The LXun appears to be of poor quality according to reviews. I only linked to that listing because it shows the 7 pin well. My mistake.
I'm setting up my own CCTV system with blue iris and a Cisco 24 port PoE+ switch I found for a low price. The tower cost me 80 dollars.
I wasn't expecting the need for a dedicated GPU to handle object detection properly.
