Hi, imagine you purchased Windows 8 yesterday. When Windows 10 launches, you can upgrade for free. However, a year later you need to perform a clean installation of Windows. You can't use the Windows 8 CD anymore because you won't be able to upgrade for free (or would you?). You think you might still be able to download a Windows 10 ISO from the Microsoft website. Do you think your Windows 8 activation key would remain valid for Windows 10, given that the free upgrade period has ended? Thanks, T.

It seems you believe upgrading won't be possible once the year ends.

It would be let down. It's wiser to wait and purchase the complete Windows 10 once it becomes available.

Upgrading within the first year usually gives you a fresh serial number, allowing further upgrades even after the initial period ends. Installing Windows 10 on another system would require a new license, as the original EULA restricts it to a single device. Confirm with the vendor about any restrictions before proceeding.
