Upgrade or not?
I’m considering switching to an AMD build and noticed Ryzen’s Ryzen 5 1600 AF. I’m thinking about getting 16 GB of DDR4 3200 MHz RAM. Would improving the CPU be a small gain, or should I hold off until I can get the Ryzen 5 3600? How does the Ryzen 5 2600 compare in terms of GPU performance? I’m planning to use the ASUS PRIME B450-PLUS and want something affordable.
Choose the 1600AF if it's between 2600 and 1600. Opt for the 4600 if you're thinking about a 3600. Playing at 1080p60 usually works with the 1600AF.
PSU gains significance due to the 1050ti model. It draws power from the motherboard. Larger cards require extra cables, making PSU capacity a concern.
It seems you're considering upgrading your system with an Intel i5 9400f while using a Z370 motherboard. The RAM speed is capped at 2666 MHz by the motherboard, but you might be able to increase it to 3200 MHz through overclocking. The actual performance depends on whether the CPU and RAM are limited by their respective bottlenecks. For an upgrade, a CPU boost would likely offer better gains than adding more RAM, unless your current RAM is the limiting factor.
For most gaming, boost the GPU first because your i3 8100 supports some modern graphics cards. Once that's handled, consider improving the rest of your setup.
