Hello, I have a setup I created several years back that combines professional tasks and some gaming. On the work end, I've encountered RAM limitations with 32GB where certain jobs exceed memory needs, causing instability. Because of this, I'm thinking about upgrading to 48GB or 64GB. However, the original hardware isn't available locally anymore, and even with what I have, occasional performance hiccups persist. I've slightly relaxed the XMP settings to boost stability.

Additionally, I'm uncertain about current guidelines for non-kit RAM setups with modern processors. To sum up, my current specs are: CPU - AMD Ryzen 2700 (planned Zen3 upgrade), Motherboard - Gigabyte B450M-DS3H, RAM - ADATA 2x16GB sticks at 3000 MT/s with specific timings. I'm concerned about stability if I deviate from these specs or if the system behaves differently with newer CPUs. Please let me know your thoughts.

Back then's Ryzen had a weak memory controller. I might sound crazy if anyone questioned me, but I'd test running slower RAM first to check stability before making changes. Probably just me—stability is worth more than speed. Mixing different RAM types shouldn't be too much of an issue, though you might need to slow things down even more. Installation is straightforward: use a matched pair as usual and add the second one afterward. This keeps the channels balanced.

I’d consider disabling XMP even though it means the system runs at 2133. If that eliminates the crashes, you can be sure it’s about the RAM configuration. I’m testing this on an Intel machine with four 16GB modules at double speed. They performed well together in previous setups, but now my current unit struggles. I’ve adjusted many parameters, yet at 3200 MHz the crashes persist—sometimes daily, sometimes weekly. Neither is acceptable. Turning off XMP might stop the issues, but I’m unsure if it’s safe to lower the speed further. Yes to the first part. The idea of boosting speed is uncertain; more channels and ranks increase memory controller load. The stable top speed may drop with additional modules.
