Upgrade only the CPU components
Hi, I'm Shahnawaz. I have a PC with an i5 2500 Sandy Bridge, HP Compaq 6200 Pro, and a 320W power supply. The motherboard is a 1497 chipset with Q65. I'm thinking about upgrading to a third-generation model and want to know if it's possible.
The Q65 chipset doesn't include Ivy Bridge support. It's not a major upgrade, so you're unlikely to be missing much. Continue saving for something more recent, such as an AM4 build.
You're not able to improve this setup. It's limited to the second generation only, and even a 3770k offers just a 5% boost on single-core performance—essentially no noticeable gain. By the time it's been around for 14 years, upgrading to a newer model would be the best option.
Even with an upgraded CPU like i7-3770, performance would be constrained by the motherboard's power and cooling capabilities. There’s little benefit to enhancing your HP system; it’s wiser to conserve funds and opt for AM4 instead.
