Upgrade on PC took a long time, but the boot device isn't appearing.
Hey everyone. So i upgraded to a AMD system from intel, but i didn't reinstall windows. Windows works fine, but the boot is very slow. When i check the bios, my windows m.2 ssd isn't showing up as bootable device, only an other ssd. (that used to be the boot device years ago) The m.2 ssd does show up when i eventually get in to windows. When i disconnect all drives but the m.2, i get into a bios loop, windows doesn't start. So what do i do now? Format the m.2 and reinstall windows anyway? And on a side note, whenever i just started my pc, my screen will freeze for a few sec, go black, then i get an AMD message about driver timeout. Whatsup with that? I upgraded to a RX 7900xt weeks ago without problems.
Restart the Windows installation to resolve the issue. There seems to be a driver conflict causing crashes and slowdowns. Even if it appears functional now, performance will suffer and problems may arise later. The system is frequently freezing or failing to respond.
No, it's not the same as reinstalling. The upgrade process modifies your current settings and files, while reinstalling would start from scratch.
It seems to be more about preventing new drivers from appearing, which is probably the main reason for your problems. Even after upgrading to Windows 11, you might still encounter these issues. The only solution would be a full format and reinstall. Unless you're skilled enough to manually delete the old chipset and drivers and install the new ones, a format and reinstall will be the most effective and straightforward approach.
