Hello, Your computer has been acting strangely lately. It suddenly powers off and displays error code "00" on your ASUS Maximus Hero VIII with an i7 6700K processor. The power supply tested correctly using a multimeter, and the RAM seems fine. You built the system with just a few components, yet the same error persists even without any RAM installed. I assumed the motherboard would flag a specific RAM issue if none was present. This made me suspect the motherboard itself might be faulty rather than the CPU. Initially, I thought the board was defective. To verify, I bought an ASUS Prime z390-A, expecting compatibility with my i7 6700K. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work with that CPU. Now I’m stuck between your old board and a new z390-A, neither of which are functioning properly with the i7 6700K. I also have an unused z390-A board. I’m trying to figure out whether my motherboard or the CPU is the problem. Plus, I now own another z390-A that I haven’t used. My main concern is if either the new board or the old CPU is faulty. Either way, upgrading both seems necessary. A better processor would likely need a newer board, and most newer boards won’t support the i7 6700K. I’m in an unusual position—at the top of my previous hardware tier but now needing to upgrade something. It feels like I’ll have to upgrade both if I want to keep up with performance expectations. If I choose one upgrade, the other will probably need a replacement too. As long as I don’t have a tight budget and don’t want extreme changes, I’d prefer staying around an i7 9700K level. well one thing I can say is that it's very uncommon for cpu's themselves to fail without them being overclocked very high or overheating several times. theres about a 90% chance it's the motherboard and 10% the cpu thats at fault

I reside close to a Microcenter. I can exchange the Z390 and collect a package they provide for $530, which includes an i7 9700k and the identical Prime Z390-A board. So far, I haven’t found any practical alternatives for the Hero VIII, suggesting an upgrade seems necessary. The board is four years old and has been used heavily. Upgrading appears to be the most sensible path forward. Later, I’ll acquire the old i7 6700k for a side project build. Current Build: (Attempting to upgrade this to i7 9700k on a Prime Z390-A.)
