Hi, for your Sony Vaio SVE1511FXS you can upgrade the CPU and RAM. The maximum options depend on the specific parts you choose. For the CPU, compatible models with the socket FCPGA988 are available on Intel's site. Just make sure the new CPU matches the socket type and voltage requirements. If you're unsure about mobile CPU sockets, double-check the exact specifications to ensure compatibility. Let me know if you need further details!

This processor appears to be among the top options for that socket, though I’m uncertain about the laptop’s compatibility and cooling performance.

I was considering a fourth-generation model or higher, perhaps with reduced power consumption.

Based on what I’ve seen, most models use i5 processors and they’re in the midrange lineup, so it makes sense to avoid an i7 with a smaller cooling system.

That is another socket, these CPUs won't fit.

Could a cooling pad enhance the performance of the small fan?

Perhaps a slight variation of 2-3c isn't enough if the new CPU generates roughly double the heat of the previous one.

I replaced my VAIO with an i7-2720QM from an i3-2310m and the cooling system is working well, suggesting a smooth upgrade to a similar 3rd generation processor with eight threads should work. I’m considering this change but can’t be fully sure. To pick the right CPU, it helps to check what’s available on eBay in your area at reasonable prices. I advise avoiding Chinese sellers on eBay—they often appear as local buyers or pose as legitimate sellers—and steer clear of those with complaints about faulty items. There are many scams offering older processors at higher prices, so waiting a month or two might lead to better deals.

Thanks for contacting me. I own a Sony VAIO PCG71713L. Following Cysero's advice, I completed an upgrade similar to theirs six months ago and haven't noticed any overheating issues yet. I upgraded from a Core i5 2410M to i72720QM. I also think replacing your hard drive with an SSD would be beneficial if you haven't already. Based on my experience, switching to an SSD made a significant difference. A solid cooling pad with multiple fans will help too. Be sure to choose one with good airflow. Refer to the specs below for details about my upgrade. Best of luck!
