Hi, I’m thinking about purchasing Dell Precision 7730 and 7740 workstation laptops and planning an upgrade with more RAM. Right now both models have 16 gigabytes of RAM running at 2667 MHz as shown in the task manager. I found on Dell that these can support RAM sticks up to 3200 MHz, but the seller mentioned they don’t know why this happens. Even if you install a 3200 MHz stick, they’ll still be limited to 2667 MHz.

I have a few questions:
1. Is this a BIOS issue?
2. Do these laptops only accept certain RAM brands that can actually run at 3200 MHz?

I’d really appreciate any advice from anyone who has faced the same problem and found a solution. Thanks to everyone who replied to my previous post—I was surprised by how quickly I got helpful answers! Help is needed.

Thank you for your message. Are there options to set the RAM speed to 3200 at full performance? Maybe a CPU upgrade or adjusting BIOS settings could help. Alternatively, I might need to accept the 2667 limit on the CPU.

avoid a desk setup, opt for a gaming laptop if you aim to boost performance

Your speed is still an issue. If you plan to upgrade the RAM, remember the dual channel option. How many RAM sticks are currently installed in each PC?
