Checking if switching from DDR3 to DDR4 works with the same CPU is normal. RAM and CPU compatibility doesn’t depend on the motherboard, just the chipset and specifications. Your Intel Core i5 4670 should work with DDR4 RAM if it matches the required speed and capacity.

You're facing issues because the pin configurations and slots differ between DDR3 and DDR4, and the chip's controller doesn't recognize DDR4 support.

The IMC isn't working and the dimmers on the panel aren't responding because the pin layout is different.

I'm unable to find any motherboards compatible with that CPU since DDR4 support isn't available...

I understand the RAM compatibility for the motherboard, but I'm checking for any problems with switching CPU and RAM types.

You're asking about compatibility issues. Specifically, you want to know why DDR4 DIMMs won't work with a DDR3 CPU and why the M.2 slot can't be used.

It could happen if you switch your motherboard to DDR4 and your CPU isn't compatible with that type of memory.

The combination of your CPU and motherboard isn't compatible with DDR4. To use DDR4, you must replace both the motherboard and the CPU.
