I’m planning to upgrade my gaming/editing PC soon and intend to run Windows 8.1 64-bit, but my friend mentioned Windows 10 will launch on the 29th. I’m excited but nervous about upgrading since I’m still new to changing Windows versions. Here are my questions: 1. What might happen if I upgrade from Windows 8.1 to 10? I want to avoid any issues that could ruin my experience. 2. Will the system run more efficiently and perform better during games? 3. How does the free upgrade period work? 4. What does a clean installation mean during an upgrade? Thanks for taking the time to help!

Here’s a clearer version of your points:

1. As long as your power remains stable, everything should work fine.
2. DirectX12 offers improved graphics, but not every DX11 game will be compatible with it, so performance may be similar or slightly better.
3. You can upgrade for free starting July 29, 2015, and continue using the same date in 2016. After that, you’ll need to pay.
4. Performing a clean installation will erase your current data. If you plan to do this, back up important files or store them online.

Avoid using registry cleaners and removing anti-virus or other security programs before restarting. This should ensure a smooth upgrade process. Naturally, hardware issues, power failures, or other surprises can still happen and cause problems. That would be unfortunate. I suggest keeping a backup of your data to help you in case something goes wrong. It will likely be less demanding on your system thanks to Microsoft's optimizations for running Windows on mobile devices, especially on lower-end tablets. Gaming performance is hard to gauge, so you usually need to wait 2-3 driver updates after the latest Windows release for optimal results. Review sites often publish benchmark scores on the first day of a release, which tend to show similar or slightly reduced gaming speeds compared to previous versions. Once Windows 8 is fully installed and updated, you'll see a notification with a Windows icon in your notification tray (next to the clock). Clicking it will reserve your copy of Windows 10, allowing it to download ahead of time so it's ready for installation on July 29, giving you time to enjoy the OS from day one. We currently don't have more details. Questions about reinstalling or obtaining the ISO/product key are unanswered. For the most reliable experience, it’s best to wait for the official Windows 10 release and purchase the software then. It’s close enough now to be wise. I don’t understand your concerns.

Thanks a lot—it really made a big difference. As for the last question, it seemed simple enough; I looked it up online.
