It varies based on your update status. If you moved from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, you have 30 days to revert to Windows 8.1, but consider your reasons for changing.

When you move from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 via the upgrade assistant, you can return to your earlier version using the Control Panel or Settings. If you upgraded without using the assistant, it’s recommended to perform a clean install and back up all data first, as suggested by @Lenovo1984.

Since it runs more reliably and avoids requiring a restart for updates, it doesn't automatically add unnecessary software like candy crush.

I've never faced these problems with Windows 10, and you can remove the unnecessary features. For updates, just set them up correctly and you're all set. Eventually, you'll have no option but to upgrade, so it might be a good time now. The latest Windows 10 version (1909) is stable, and I've tested the new release on many PCs—it performs well.

I understand the process. The program will reinstall automatically. You can edit the registry to prevent it, though this will reset when you update.

I didn’t upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 using the upgrade tool. The laptop came pre-installed with Windows 10. I chose to revert to Windows 8.1 because it feels noticeably smoother than Windows 10 in my experience. In my view, it runs more reliably and avoids the clutter of unnecessary software. Of course, you can remove it if needed, but I think Microsoft should avoid bundling such apps in the first place.

That’s a good question. Backing up your drive and installing Windows 8.1 from the backup should work fine, but transferring all files at once might cause issues depending on your system’s performance and available storage.

Your device doesn’t support downgrading. You’ll need to perform a clean install of Windows 8.1 and purchase a license. Could you share the details of your laptop?
