Hello. My PC has unactivated Windows 10 Pro installed. I purchased a Home Edition key but can't use it because of the Pro activation. I found a YouTube tutorial later tonight and need your help. I'll share the video link and list all the steps he recommended. Here are the instructions:

1. Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion
2. Change these registry entries:
- Product name = Windows 10 Home Edition
- ID = core

3. Then go to: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion
4. Modify the registry:
- Product name = windows 10 Home Edition
- ID = core

5. Download the media creation tool from: https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/softw...
6. Mount the downloaded Windows ISO file and install Windows 10 Home.

My concern is whether I can bypass the media creation tool download and just mount the ISO I got last night. Thanks! I have limited Wi-Fi, so speed matters. The only part I want to skip is getting the ISO via the tool.

You can simply reinstall. It's possible to use the ISO and burn it onto a USB drive with RUFUS. This method is better because media creation tools may sometimes fail, requiring you to start over.

Perform a clean installation and select the appropriate Windows version from the start. The media creation tool is available for this purpose, ensuring you can pick the right version.

You're not suggesting setting up Windows this way? I'd rather avoid a full clean install and risk losing my files.

Maybe this could be useful. The link points to a discussion about downgrading Windows 10 Pro to Home. It explains that you don't need to activate it for basic use, and there are no fees except losing some extras.

You recently purchased a Windows 10 home license, yet your system runs Windows 10 Pro (unactivated). You need to remove the watermark displayed in the lower-right corner.

You should have received the original key from the manufacturer. Hope you're doing well.

Thanks! I hope it functions correctly. If not, I’ll proceed with a fresh setup. Appreciate the assistance.

Store your files on cloud storage or a USB drive, perform a fresh installation, and then transfer them back. A fresh installation means updating the operating system for better stability and security.
