Hello! I thought it would be wise to seek advice from more experienced folks before making the switch, just in case I mess up my computer. Upgrading from the Ryzen 5 5600x to the Ryzen 9 5900x means I’ll need to check if the motherboard drivers require updates. I was planning a simple swap like replacing RAM, but wanted some guidance to ease my concerns. Thanks ahead for your support and expertise!

If your setup uses a 5600x resolution, it will also function with a 5900x.

The main worry when moving from 5600X to 5900X comes down to whether your board’s VRM can handle it, but only if you’re considering the full range of available motherboards. The Tuf X570 is a reliable choice that should work well for this upgrade.

This setup will require a refreshed BIOS. I’ve updated it already, but I’m curious how the VRM will perform under that load.

The B450M Mortar is a robust B450 board that managed a 2700X load without issues. Because 2700X demands more power than the 5800X, the VRM is clearly sufficient.
