I generally avoid downloading unauthorized copies but when Microsoft announced restrictions on free Windows 10, I decided to give it a shot myself. I set up a Windows 7 virtual machine using an ISO from tbp and upgraded to Windows 10 via the official update tool from Microsoft.
Ten dollars will vanish in thirty days, turning into something unactivated. I think this free upgrade plan is likely to create more problems than it solves. Instead of relying on it, I might end up purchasing multiple Windows 10 copies just to avoid the hassle. They should provide an online service where users input their product keys and receive activation directly to their accounts. Each device should be linked to one account, requiring internet access for login. They could also offer a traditional method like calling a support line for number exchanges.

Pirates always win, and any measures taken against pirates are BOUND to hurt some paying customers too in some shape or form. Therefore, we should all just co-exist in the Windows eco-system, since pirates will always find a way and the free upgrade is a huge step towards turning long-time pirates into legitimate owners of Windows. And btw, you can transfer the $10 to my paypal account ([email protected]) in 30 days, since nobody is getting deactivated.
I'm using Ubuntu because it's reliable and widely supported. It's not just any OS—it's designed for stability and performance.
