I usually achieve around 250 fps in CS:GO and 220 in Valorant during competitive play, aiming for steady rates above 300 on both. A 12900k could be a good investment or you might wait for the next generation or AMD releases. Some say the 8700k isn’t a big jump to 12900k, but for my situation it might just be enough to hit my target. I recently switched to a 3090, hoping it would work well in other titles as well.

270hz isn't necessary unless you're after a costly display. You could likely locate options with 200-300 frames per second at 1080p, depending on the game and configuration.

You already own a 1440p 270Hz display.

there won’t be many titles you’ll encounter. You’ll notice improvement with a newer CPU, but that depends on your budget and priorities. I don’t see much value if you’re already getting 200-250 points in some games you’re playing. Otherwise, there will always be newer generations to follow.

I noted in the earlier comment that I aim for over 300 in the esports titles mentioned. My doubt lies in whether the 12,900k is sufficient or if I should wait for the next-gen release to meet my goals.

The i5 12600k behaves the same as the 12900k in gaming. You'll notice better frame rates after upgrading to 12 generations, though you'll soon hit the limits of improvement.

Boosted your processor to 5GHz and connected it with high-speed memory.

I’m upgrading myself too. The 8700k barely covers what I play. The main reason I’m holding back from a 12th gen is the cost of the dam itx boards. I’m also looking for more RAM for it.

Check the specs at 1440p—your graphics card might be limiting. Right now, no processor can ensure a steady 300+ FPS consistently. Expect occasional drops even with a 12900K.

Hardware and software constraints are clear. It looks like OP likely has a 3090 already. There’s a bit less CPU or RAM available, but it doesn’t quite justify the cost and performance given the current DDR5 challenges in both price and speed.
