Upgrade Dell Optiplex 3010 to 16GB RAM. Model CT102464BD160B
Hello everyone, this article is meant for anyone who tries to search for this later. I was helping a friend upgrade his computer. He had an i5-3470 with 8GB RAM, a 500GB hard drive, and a GTX 1050 2GB graphics card (which had a 1366x768 screen). The manufacturer’s support only covered up to 8GB, but we managed to get past that and explained the steps here. We switched to an i7-3770, swapped the hard drive for a cheap Jenson 512GB SSD, and added a 16GB RAM kit (Komputerbay 2x8GB DDR3 1333MHz). It didn’t work. We updated the BIOS using Dell’s tool to a22, but still nothing. It turned out one of the drives was faulty and we returned it. I then bought a specific 16GB DDR3L kit (2x8GB, 1600MHz) from a video recommendation for upgrading his 3010. I’m checking if this RAM actually functions and if Windows recognizes the full 16GB. If you’re unsure about getting a kit for your 3010, it should work even though it claims only 8GB support. Important: the 16GB (2x8GB) kit is DDR3L 1600MHz, PC3-12800, 240-pin CL11.
