Upgrade CPU for Vega 56 model x58 CPU upgrade recommendation
Hello, recently I received a free x58 setup and chose it as an extra machine for my parents when they need extra power. I managed to get a vega 56 at 45 euros, though the cooler was damaged and had two fans stuck on it. It got hot after a short time but still worked, and I now have a replacement cooler from the original vega 56. The system specs are: an Asus P6 24GB DDR3 1333 MHz, an I7-950 at 4.3GHz (was 4.7 originally), a Sytche orochi HD 5870, and a Vega 56 Original Hx 1000 PSU, plus a 240GB SSD and an Antec Nine Hundred V2. I’m aware this setup is quite mismatched for the card, but since rendering is the main goal, I’m considering a X5650 and an OC. Those cost around 12 euros each. I also play Titanfall 2 and Guild Wars 2 occasionally, so I want the CPU upgrade to not hurt performance too much. As long as I keep 60fps, I’m good. Any suggestions for the best value CPU that won’t slow down the existing rig?
x5650 with OC is going to be hard to beat for the platform. X5675 is technically better but if the X5650 is only $12? Screw it, go with that. Should be able to OC the X56xx to 4.2-4.5 range with some tweaking, higher if you get lucky. I used a 1080ti for months with my X5675 at 4.5ghz. It was fine, maybe held the card back a little buuuut I got good performance out of it so didn't care.
