For playing at 1080p60hz, my Haswell system handled it well. When I increased to 1440p, maintaining 60FPS became challenging, prompting the upgrade. Outside gaming, a 3rd generation processor should suffice. The 3770 will likely be your last upgrade on that platform, as no further improvements are needed without switching platforms. The $40 price tag is quite reasonable; when comparing the 4790k, 4770k, and 4770 at $300 each, I opted for the Xeon E3 1280V3 for $100. It has performed exceptionally, extending my gaming sessions by about 3 to 5 months before I felt the need for a new platform.
