Upgrade CPU for an older setup
Upgrade CPU for an older setup
Hello fellow enthusiasts, I'm searching for a CPU upgrade for my setup. Performance has been inconsistent lately due to component shortages and good offers. My needs include gaming, real-time rendering development, and occasionally C4D+Blender rendering (usually just a few frames). What options stand out?
My current build: 7600X (my cooler handles it), 13600k DDR4 (with older 3000 RAM?), or 13600k DDR5. Any other suggestions? I'm based in Germany and use the German PCPP. I'm aiming for a budget of around 600€, but if you're convinced, 800€ would be great.

Note: A friend already showed interest in my CPU and motherboard, not the RAM (possibly relevant for 13th Gen).
It really depends on your goals. Considering your input, the Intel 13000 series with existing DDR4 seems like a solid choice. However, it’s likely you’ll want to maintain that setup for the foreseeable future, meaning your next steps would involve replacing the CPU, motherboard, and RAM. You might also consider moving to an AM5 platform with DDR5, assuming AMD continues supporting future CPU releases. That way, you could upgrade just the CPU later. This isn’t fully confirmed yet, but you could explore selling your current RAM and switching to DDR5 with the 13000 series, allowing you to upgrade the motherboard and CPU in the future.
Absolutely, that matches what I was considering too. I’m planning to replace my graphics card in about three years and want flexibility—preferably keeping the CPU or making it easy to upgrade. It should work with both Intel and AMD options. I’m not sure if my DDR4 memory will still perform well then, so I’d lean toward AMD if it means better overall performance. Since I mainly run high-quality games and don’t need super fast builds, I might be more interested in AMD. Prices could also make a difference, so I hope someone has a different take.
