I've also been looking into some options and believe this setup could work well:
Ryzen 5 7600 (or Ryzen 7 7700 if I'm lucky on Black Friday!)
Asus TUF Gaming B650 plus WiFi
Crucial Pro 2x16 GB 5600MHz RAM
Crucial P3 Plus 1TB M2 SSD for my OS disk
This should fit comfortably around £500 without any special deals. I plan to upgrade later, possibly adding a new GPU and using the provided AMD cooler as a temporary solution. Does this seem like a solid choice?

It doesn’t seem problematic. I’m evaluating a platform upgrade and considering Intel for its cost. It’s always been built with AMD, and I like their offerings, but I’m thinking about using an i5 13400 and a budget board.

Final question, I promise!!
Depending on Black Friday, I'm considering either the Ryzen 5 7600 or the Ryzen 7 7700, both available in an X version. Right now on Amazon (UK), the 7600 costs £214, the 7600X is £222, while the 7700 is £309 and the 7700X is £296. Decisions!
I know the X series can't be overclocked and they lack a cooler, whereas the non-X models do. I'm not an expert, so I wouldn't attempt any overclocking myself. Which version would be better—X or not-X?
If a CPU came with a cooler, I'd try it, but I'm open to a separate cooling solution if needed, so that's not a big issue for me.
