Upgrade Unkn shared a post about CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory on the forum. About a year ago they upgraded their PC with a better graphics card, which led to a 3060 12 GB setup. Now they're facing a CPU bottleneck because they have an i3 10105f and are unsure if the change was beneficial. Others are curious about their thoughts.
It’s a big mistake given the overspending on the board. The price tag of 5700x3D at 117£ on AliExpress is quite steep, but buying it from AliExpress A520M-K for 47£ saves around 65£. There’s no real need for a B-series board since you can only overclock X3D, and most A-series boards support that too. The VRMs aren’t a big deal either—the board draws very little power, so even the modest VRMs should perform well. You’ll save roughly 100£ overall and get a much faster gaming CPU as well.
There are numerous valid reasons to choose a B series board beyond simply overclocking. If your focus is on I/O performance, this board falls significantly behind. Regarding the Aliexpress CPU, if you prioritize buyer protection or warranty, it would be wise to avoid Aliexpress.
Usually I’d recommend upgrading your CPU, but I think the 10 series Intel chips are priced too high for now. It might cost more than needed to switch to a better setup that could support a stronger GPU later. I’d support the 5700 X3D—you could probably find a used one on eBay, or even with the motherboard setups used for AM5 upgrades. Assuming you’re trying to save money, the 5700 X3D should still handle 1080p and 1440p gaming well at normal settings, and you might extend its lifespan by a couple more years with newer games. Upgrading your GPU could also give you another couple of years of use.
