You're dealing with a Core 2 Quad that's holding you back, especially since your GT 240 is limiting your options. It sounds like you're looking for a more affordable upgrade path. Q9400 could be a good starting point if you're open to exploring budget-friendly components.

You're likely examining a replacement for the main system board.

This Ryzen 5 5600G offers impressive performance thanks to its last-generation Zen2 cores and a solid stock cooler. Pairing it with an A520 board enhances its speed, delivering a top-tier CPU and an iGPU capable of outperforming the GT240. Just ensure you use dual-channel DDR4 memory at a minimum of 3200MHz. I opt for affordable, green-pcb dimms available on Amazon for good value. Modern RAM typically doesn’t require a heat spreader unless you’re pushing the limits with overclocking.

Relies on several factors... Your intended purpose for the machine (video editing, music recording, storage, general use, gaming, etc.) helps decide the best platform. Would your existing case fit again? Can your current power supply support the needed upgrades? If yes, what type is it—ATX, Micro ATX, Mini ATX? If not, do you want a full tower, mid-tower, or something smaller? Gaming is also a consideration. Resolution matters too—1080p, 1440p, or 4K? Keep in mind that Ryzen models ending in G come with built-in graphics, which may not justify the extra cost if you plan to use a dedicated GPU.

Here’s a simpler version of what you found:
Top picks on Newegg fit your budget include the best options listed. For higher-end choices, Xeon models around $105-110 are available, though one model lacks a hard drive. Links provided for reference.

You really pushed things to their limit. My current setup is a Dell OptiPlex 380, which won’t work here. The PSU would blow up under any other load. Mid Tower setup relies on the game.

It doesn’t need to be a fully assembled setup—just thinking about the CPU and motherboard. I’ll handle the rest later.
