It shouldn't be necessary most times, but if the system won't start, you'll need a Windows recovery drive to restore your files.

In the worst case, the Windows installation might have to be reactivated once more, though altering just the motherboard rarely causes deactivation.

I swapped out my CPU and GPU without any problems, and once I connected the new motherboard it prompted me to reactivate it.

It was just a few hardware adjustments. The motherboard was the final blow.
