Updating windows on a specific drive
Updating windows on a specific drive
For reasons discussed earlier, my Windows 10 appears to be damaged and attempts to repair it haven’t helped. I thought about reinstalling it, but there’s a risk of losing data. My installation is on a separate partition, and during setup I found the partition labeled "system reserved." That raises some doubts. Are the files on other drives and the other partition safe? In Windows setup I was given two choices: Option 1 – upgrade and keep everything; Option 2 – custom install only. The installer blocked Option 1, saying it wouldn’t work if another drive with Windows is present. Option 2 seems riskier, but I’m worried about overwriting data and what would remain unusable. I also received an unclear error message. Thanks for your assistance!
Please ensure each topic has only one thread. Regarding your question, I don’t have access to your system’s current Windows version or storage type.
It looks like you're considering removing one component. That's fine if it's an M.2 SSD and you're okay with the replacement.
The drive listed is the one you see in the installation window. Regarding the partitions, I can provide a detailed list based on the Windows installer output, but I won’t display the actual file paths unless you specify which one. Let me know if you’d like the full details from the installer.
I investigated it, and I’m certain it’s on partition 3, even though Google says Windows takes up more space there. The answer is yes, a lot. There’s a second drive—drive 2—that mainly contains games and no recovery data needed. Could it be possible to install Windows onto that drive and start from there?
Yes, longer answer: You'll want to unplug and/or remove any drive that isn't the one you want to install Windows onto. Then boot off the Windows USB with just that one drive installed. Do a Custom Windows installation Delete all the partitions on that drive when given the option. Click "Next" (do not create any partitions, the installer will do that automatically. After Windows is installed and working, you can go back and plug in other drives to get them back.
Deleted everything, pressed the formatting option in the installer, but it didn’t work correctly. The information vanished, the drive appears blank, yet it remains an MBR file, not a GPT. Correction: I realized what you were asking.
