Updating Windows 8.1 fastest method
I understand if this has been asked before. I recently moved from Windows 7 with an upgrade license to Windows 8 Pro, then upgraded to Windows 8.1. It was quite a process, partly due to my mistakes. I thought I could perform a clean install on an empty SSD using the Windows 8 Pro CD. The truth is, you can only upgrade to Windows 8 from a functional Windows 7 setup. The product description doesn’t mention this.
If you plan to reinstall Windows 8.1 in the future, here’s what you could consider: Since you have an active Microsoft account, you might be able to use the Windows 8 Pro CD for a fresh installation. Log in with your account and follow the steps on the CD. Alternatively, if you prefer, you could reinstall Windows 7 first, then upgrade to Windows 8 Pro as before. This avoids the back-and-forth of installing both OS versions at once, which can be frustrating.
Regarding your second question, Microsoft often splits updates into multiple files for efficiency. This approach helps manage downloads and simplifies the process. Using a single large update file would make it even more cumbersome—downloading many files repeatedly and restarting just to finish. It’s better to stick with the current method unless you have a specific reason.
