Updating Windows 11 to resolve the update service issue? Need clarification.
I looked for a troubleshooting sub forum but wasn’t able to locate it. Just now I found it. I moved the post there, but it won’t let me delete it. Sorry to the mods, but I couldn’t find it for some reason. In short: I’m using Windows 10 and my update assistant is stuck in a loop. I can’t update the operating system. Don’t bother trying to help me, it’ll waste your time. I’ve spent hours trying every known solution and none worked. If you think you have a fix, I’ve already tried it. Now my only choice is to reinstall Windows 10 or 11. I want to upgrade to 11, so I’ll do that. But since my Windows update service isn’t working, I can’t just install it normally. That leaves me with two options: - Install manually by downloading the actual installation file and running it. The right version is hidden in a large list of options. I don’t know which one to pick. - Install via the media drive, which seems like the best chance. One concern: it would erase all my data and programs. I’m aware there’s a “keep personal files” option, but I’ve seen it wipe everything before. If this is rare, does “keeping my files” mean just the files, not the programs? Thanks for reading. Please help.
