I was considering switching to Windows 24h2, but I’m still unsure if it will activate Bitlocker encryption. I’ve heard that using a local user account keeps it off, while a Microsoft account enables it. Since I have a local account I usually use, I’m not sure about the implications. I also remember having a Microsoft account linked to this PC, but I don’t actively use it. It’s confusing how this will affect me, and I really don’t want Bitlocker turned on automatically because it would require turning it off later. With the amount of data stored, decrypting it could take nearly two days.

It happens during a clean setup without using Rufus or similar tools, activating Bitlocker in 24H2 for both Home and Pro versions. Some prebuilt PCs running Windows 11 24H2 might already have it turned on. Updating from 23H2 didn’t enable it at all. Microsoft said it would never turn on if Bitlocker was off before, especially after a lot of frustration. I’m hoping it stays that way in future updates.

Unless circumstances have shifted, Windows Home doesn't come with Bitlocker. I own two machines running Home, and Bitlocker isn't activated or accessible.

Since 24H2 Bitlocker is now part of home editions, it makes sense that the feature must be enabled there too. This is likely why it's included in home versions as well. https://windowsforum.com/threads/windows...ow.364273/

I bought the laptop a year ago with Windows 11 Home already set up. The storage was BitLocker encrypted from the start, before 24h2 was introduced. My mini PC also came with Windows 11 Pro and was BitLocker protected out of the box. I had turned it off before switching to 24h2, but after updating, it didn’t re-enable. Even though I reinstalled the files I removed, I still had to clear the AI trash and other unnecessary items manually.

Both of the 24H2 Home PCs were direct upgrades to this version from 23H2, not fresh installs. This likely explains why Bitlocker wasn’t enabled and why I can’t turn it on since the option is hidden. Sorry if my earlier message caused confusion.
