Updating to a new BIOS while using an older CPU
Hello everyone, I own an MSI B450i ITX board with a Ryzen 7 1700X, an MSI RX 580 Armor MK2 and G.Skill Ripjaws 3200 MHz 14 CAS. From some older discussions I learned that BIOS updates from the 3000 series can cause issues with the 1000-2000 series. Right now I'm running the 7A40vA4 BIOS (pre-update), and I wonder if switching to the latest version might break compatibility between my GPU and the board. Unfortunately, this motherboard doesn’t have a backup option to revert the BIOS settings.
No changes required if reports exist. Updating the bios isn't necessary when the board performs well.
There were concerns about bugs and issues when the 3000 series was introduced. I’m thinking about whether the 5000 series is a safer time to update. At the same time, I share your idea that if something works fine, it doesn’t need fixing.
It's okay to refresh, but once the CPU gets more advanced, the BIOS becomes limited in size. To keep compatibility, remove outdated versions before upgrading. Wait until you switch to a different CPU and verify the required BIOS settings, then apply the update.
Because they can't support all. Physically it supports all but the bios has to know what to do and simply put there is too little room in the bios for all. That and certain chipsets "don't" support certain ryzen cpu's. They actually do support all of em but it's up to the motherboard maker to allow them all and well they aren't going to put in effort for cpu's that aren't being made anymore
