Updating PSU configuration - seeking advice
Hey there fellow members,
System:
CPU: Ryzen 5800x 3D
New GPU: Sapphire Nitro + 7900 XTX
Ram: G.SKILL Trident Z RGB 16GB 3600MHz CL18 (interested in getting a pair of 8gb sticks to reach 32 GB) (with this upcoming upgrade)
MOBO: Rog Strix x570-e gaming
Cooler: Arctis Duo Freezer 34 (or similar)
😀
)
PSU: With the upcoming GPU upgrade, it’s not enough, so I’m seeking recommendations based on the listed components.
P.S. (off topic): Should buying two extra sticks of the same 8gb RAM be worthwhile? I’ve been using this pair for about three years now.
16GB of RAM was typical around 2013. Nowadays it's more like 32-64. It doesn't really make much of a difference, but for PSU suggestions I'd recommend a 1000 Watt as it's safer rather than risking something...
Looking at this badboy also seemed like a good match for my new case and it matches the color.
I would agree and disagree on this.
16GB of memory suits an average gamer just fine.
But if you frequently run mods or background programs and use Discord, 32 would be a much better option.
64GB for a gaming PC is a huge waste of money—I only have 32GB and have never seen more than 20 used.
Of course, this still depends on the game and what else is consuming memory.
I've heard people mention that with mods and around 50 Chrome tabs open, they're using just one monitor.
It really confuses me—how can someone play a game while needing 50 tabs open? Those who do are probably just trying to justify using so much memory.
Purchase a 2X16GB memory package for 32GB instead of the same model you currently own. Avoid buying identical sets as they may not integrate properly, strain the memory controller, and often require slower performance with multiple sticks or different components. If you require 32GB, opt for a 32GB package and consider selling your existing stock.
If spending on another 2X8GB set fails to work with your current system, revert to buying a 2X16GB set.
All my computers, whether desktops or laptops, consistently have at least 32 GB of RAM, mainly because I often use more than 16 GB and might run MySQL on any machine. 64 GB is probably too much for most users. The machine I'm using now has 48 GB, but that's due to an unexpected FrankenRAM setup (I had extra 2x16 modules from another fix, so I just added them without one of the 2x8 kits and it worked fine).
The games I'm running are consuming a lot of RAM, which is causing some problems. That's why I'm considering an upgrade. To sum it up, going with RM1000x PSU and also upgrading to a new 16GB x2 RAM setup would be ideal. Any advice on RAM? I'm planning to go RGB with ASUS Aura, using my current motherboard, the incoming GPU, and I'm thinking about using RAM with tempered glass class. Let me know.
