Updating my CPU (Ryzen 7 1700)
Hello everyone! I have the following setup:
Rx 480 Nitro+ OC 8gb
I5 6500 3.6Ghz
16GB Ram Dddr4 Crucial 2133Mhz
Asrock H110-DVS R2.0
My cousin wants to buy my CPU + mobo for his PC.
I found a good deal on a Ryzen 7 1700 with the Wraith Spire cooler (hopefully I can do some OC) and an MSI B350 TOMAHAWK motherboard.
But I think my RAM is slow (since I heard Ryzen needs fast RAM). It's only 2133Mhz. I heard I could push it to 2400Mhz, but I'm not sure if my board supports memory overclocking.
Will I be able to overclock my RAM on the new board? And is 2400Mhz enough for Ryzen? (I mainly use the PC for gaming and streaming, wanting it to last.)
I don't want to spend a lot now... or should I stick with 2133Mhz?

Thanks and sorry for my bad English
1st Gen Ryzen had strict RAM requirements at launch, but performance significantly boosted after several Agesa updates. I owned a 1700 with 3200 RAM for a brief period, but eventually sold it to a family member. Still, Ryzen offers advantages in gaming FPS thanks to faster memory with reduced latency and improved infinity fabric. However, prices remain high as you mentioned. Also, if your focus is mainly on 1080P gaming, you might experience lower FPS compared to your current setup. In the long run, the additional cores and threads should enhance the experience as systems age and software becomes more multithreaded. Regarding overclocking, my setup reached around 3.85Ghz stably; 3.9 required significantly higher voltage. I tested with a Be Quiet Dark Rock TF.
