Your new MSI Z790-S board with an i-5 13600KF is ready for use. Check the manufacturer’s instructions—some systems may require a BIOS update for optimal performance. If not specified, it’s safe to run it as-is.

The BIOS that supports the 13600KF is the 7D88v10. This appears to be the oldest BIOS version listed on the motherboard website. Even the initial BIOS release should function properly with this chipset. If you have a very old BIOS, it’s advisable to upgrade it for newer features and fixes related to the 13th generation degradation.

I’ll argue against Hinjima’s view on skipping updates. See this Intel article for more details: https://community.intel.com/t5/Mobile-an...-p/1686948. The most recent patch came out on May 1st, meaning your board likely hasn’t received the latest fix for the stability issue. It’s probably been sitting there since then. Yes, you should look at MSI for the newest BIOS. The microcode update required is 0x12F.

We update the BIOS regularly to ensure compatibility with the latest microcode. Current generation processors and RAM continue to gain advantages from ongoing improvements, such as the development of DDR5 technology.
