Updated Wi-Fi version resolved my Android auto/garage network issues.
I left my story here for anyone who might need it. I wanted to see if this issue applies to all Android phones or is specific to Xiaomi models. A bit of context: I have an underground garage, so no cell service. I managed to connect an Ethernet cable, giving me wireless access and normal calls both in and out via VoWiFi. That changed when I got a new car with wireless Android Auto. As soon as I was near it, the key in my pocket unlocked the car, started the Android Auto service, and connected to the phone using the garage’s Wi-Fi—no internet needed. Fast forward to yesterday: I bought a new phone with Wi-Fi 7, even though I don’t have any compatible routers yet. I was aware that Wi-Fi 7 lets you connect to multiple networks at once (2.4, 5GHz, 6GHz). I didn’t realize it could also link to another network while connected to Wi-Fi 5 or 6GHz. This finally solved my problem. Now, whenever I approach my car, the key unlocks it, starts Android Auto, and connects to both the phone’s Wi-Fi and the garage’s network. Is this feature available on all Wi-Fi 7 devices, or was it exclusive to Xiaomi?
