Hey there! I just finished assembling my first PC, but it’s not starting properly. I’m seeing odd behavior when I try to power it up. The PSU is on, and a few motherboard lights are lit, plus the RGB mouse briefly lights up. I can start the PC using the front I/O power button. Once it boots, the CPU and fans speed up and stay at full capacity. The RGB fans work fine. However, no power reaches any USB ports on the board or the front I/O area—possibly preventing a BIOS update. There’s no video output either; the HDMI cable works with the monitor but not after plugging it in. I notice some back-and-forth signals when I switch or unplug the HDMI cable, causing the monitor to cycle inputs. I can’t turn off the PC using the front I/O button, so I have to cut power at the PSU. From what I’ve learned, the system might be stuck somewhere early in the POST sequence. Since my motherboard doesn’t have debug LEDs or speakers, I can’t see any detailed errors. I’ve double-checked all cables are secure and tried resetting the CMOS both with and without the battery. It seems like a BIOS update could help, especially since I’m using different hardware generations. The MOBO supports updates without hardware, but I’m unsure how to do that without working USB ports. I also think there might be an issue with RAM compatibility—my QVL list didn’t show the model number. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a lot!

I understand that some Asus boards have a very slow POST process. I had one about a year ago take more than 4 minutes. Maybe be patient and wait around 10 minutes. Most models also have a speaker port near the front panel headers. You could take it to a local repair shop and test if it recognizes your board. Another option is to re-seat the CPU—if there’s a bent pin or it’s not perfect, it might still boot but won’t finish POST. No guarantees, and it’s also possible you have a completely dead board.

The BIOS update includes a function named BIOS Flashback. You can apply it even without a CPU, RAM, storage, or display output. Visit the ASUS website and proceed with the steps. If USB ports remain inactive and the update fails, it likely indicates a defective motherboard requiring an RMA. Good luck!

I've been working on the system intermittently this week and haven't found the problem yet. I thought I'd successfully updated the BIOS, but the USB ports still aren't working. I replaced the CPU, though that didn't fix it—no visible bent pins. I decided to try a CMOS 4-pin speaker to see if it helps; it should arrive later today and I'll report back after testing it. I wasn't able to retrieve any POST codes from that setup. That's why I went ahead and ordered a new board—an ASRock B450M Steel Legend mATX. The manual said it should work with the Ryzen 2000 series right out of the box. After moving everything in, I'm still facing the same issues, except I can power off the system using the pins or power button. I'm running out of ideas, any assistance would be really helpful.
