Hello everyone, I’ve upgraded my system from a 2600 to a 5700x, but games are still crashing—especially after playing for a while. The issue started around 2 or 3 hours in Forza 5, even though it was worse with a 5800x now. It seems to happen instantly when I start the game or after just a couple of rounds of play. After updating my RAM to the new ones, it improved a bit, but now it’s happening right after entering the game or within 1 to 2 minutes. Even more frustratingly, it crashes after a few stumbles. Here are my current specs:

- Motherboard: MSI B450 gaming pro carbon ac (with latest BIOS - 7B85v1G)
- RAM: Corsair VENGEANCE RGB PRO SL 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 3200 (PC4-25600) C16 1.35V, optimized for AMD Ryzen
- Power Supply: be Quiet! pure power 11 600W (80+ gold)
- Graphics Card: ASUS Rog Strix 2070 (new driver available)
- CPU: New Ryzen 7 5700X with Noctua NH-U12A cooler
- SSD: SanDisk Extreme PRO M.2 NVMe 3D, 1TB, 3.400 MB/s (C: Windows 11 Home v22H2)
- Monitor: MSI Artymis 343cqrde

When the game crashes, it freezes for a second before closing and I’m back in Windows—no errors beyond that. The only error shown is from Medival Dynasty: “LowLevelFatalError[File Unknown][Line198] Unreal Engine is exiting due D3D device being lost.”

What I’ve tried so far:
- Cleaned Windows 11 install 3 days ago (still with 5800x)
- Used AMD Ryzen Master to adjust performance settings and deactivate cores
- Updated BIOS and drivers
- Switched to new SSD and RAM

I’m really hoping someone can help me get this working again before I have to go back to my old 2600. It would be a shame to lose all the progress!

Begin with BIOS: reset CMOS, install the newest release if needed—unless you're already covered, it might be the reason for the issues

Thanks in advance. Clearing the CMOS by taking the battery off the motherboard was something I planned to try next... probably doing it right away... I’ll update you once I see the results.

The most crucial factor is the newest BIOS; an outdated version might not support newer chips and could cause problems. Also, verify your thermal paste—ensure it's in good condition; improper installation can lead to failure.

The CMOS has been reset successfully. It seems the system is working well now—Forza Horizon 5 runs smoothly without crashes, and the thermal readings stay within a safe range. I’ll review the Afterburner logs to confirm everything is functioning properly.

The CMOS was removed and wiped all stored configurations linked to your 2600, removing any conflicts with the updated CPU.

Thanks a lot PDifolco! This game really got me worked up over the weekend. I looked into the temperatures in Forza Horizon 5 - high settings, ~90 FPS, GPU around 95-100%, CPU stayed cool at 64°C with only 5% load. Thanks to Tristerin for clarifying what the CMOS reset does or better yet, explaining its purpose!

Looks like the CPU wasn’t the issue after all. I boosted my RAM speed to 3200mhz and still faced crashes. Anyone know how to keep things running smoothly at 3.200mhz or even 3.000MHz? I’ve switched back to a non-XMP profile, which now runs at 2.667 MHz. I own two of these units—each with 4x16GB: https://www.corsair.com/us/en/Categories...M2E3200C16

A lot of RAM usage can strain your CPU's memory controller. The XMP profile was designed for a single unit, not two, so you might need to tweak some parameters. Start by turning XMP on and lowering the frequency from 3200 to 3000. This gives good XMP speeds but slower performance. You can also set the command rate to 2 or activate gear down mode. Further adjustments will require more testing.

Thanks a lot for clarifying! For now, I’ll keep them at 2.667MHz—it works well and stays stable.
