Hi Guys,
Played the Bf6 Beta and it motivated me to upgrade my GPU from a 3070 to 5070ti. I’ve loaded up 2042 to keep things going while I wait. The issue I’m facing is that I’m not seeing much improvement in performance from my 3070. I’m getting very similar FPS, possibly even on ultra instead of high settings. I don’t have any frame locks and usually get around 100-120 fps (similar to the 3070).
My CPU and GPU usage is only about 80%. The only other really demanding games I own are Ready or Not, which I’m getting great performance from (around 160 FPS at ultra – CPU 30%, GPU 99%).
PC Specs:
CPU: I7 12700KF
Ram: 32GB DDR4 3600
PSU: 850W gold
GPU: 5070TI
Output: 1440p 144hz
Any suggestions on why this is happening? I’ve tried everything except a clean Windows install. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Reconfirm your configurations and the frame caps in additional programs.
Is Vsync activated?
If only the 5070 Ti was swapped for a 3070, a fresh Windows install probably won’t make much difference. You might attempt to clear the old Nvidia driver with DDU and reinstall it. Alternatively, running a Futurmark test such as Time Spy can help verify if your GPU is functioning properly.
However, a GPU operating at 80% typically indicates either frame rate is capped (in-game or via Nvidia settings) or the CPU struggles to keep up—especially when running at that high level. Battlefield games are known for being CPU-heavy. Consider reducing resolution and graphics quality. If the frame rate remains unchanged, you’re likely CPU-limited or facing frame caps.
The overall CPU utilization of 80% offers limited insight. It reflects total performance but doesn’t indicate the load on individual cores. A 12700kf system includes 8 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores. An 80% overall figure could mean those performance cores are fully busy while efficiency cores remain lightly loaded. A CPU utilization below 100% does not confirm the absence of a bottleneck. You might actually be facing one. Processing data for a game scene requires transferring information from your CPU to your GPU for rendering. If your CPU is slow, you risk an underused GPU—around 80% in this scenario. Conversely, if your CPU is strong enough, it can supply sufficient pre-rendered frames to the GPU, keeping its utilization near 100%. A jump from a 3070 to a 5070ti with only slight gains in frame rate and reduced GPU usage suggests you allocated more GPU power than necessary, while your CPU struggled to maintain high performance. Each game interacts with your hardware uniquely; high FPS in one doesn’t guarantee similar results in another.

I wanted to thank everyone for their responses – it really means a lot! I’ve started thinking about upgrading my CPU, possibly to an AMD model. The main concern is that I can watch 10+ benchmark videos for Battlefield 2042 on a 12700k, yet its CPU usage stays below 50%. Also, the frame rates remain steady with the same settings I’m using, which is really puzzling.
As mentioned earlier, I ran a benchmark and initially thought my CPU was underperforming. After closing Chrome and rerunning, it returned to normal levels.

Yesterday night I had many tabs running in Firefox and Chrome, but today I made sure no new ones opened and the issue persisted. At that time, I looked into my RAM usage, which was displaying around 50% utilization, fluctuating slightly.
It seems you're asking about the specific motherboard you're using and whether its BIOS is current. Also, regarding RAM performance, the CL latency is being checked, and XMP support in the BIOS is confirmed. Be aware that the videos shared are from three years back, so they might reflect a different system configuration, possibly with varying RAM speeds or settings. Keep in mind that background processes consuming CPU resources can affect your results.
