I purchased a 5900X for an upgrade from my 2600X. Since I haven’t replaced the CPU or motherboard, I’m unsure if a simple swap will work or if I’ll need to reinstall Windows.

If the motherboard is brand new, I agree—new Windows installation is fine. Most components now work out of the box, but motherboards often need drivers or updates later, which can cause problems if you reuse the same Windows setup.

It's not required, but it could lead to problems with certain systems. It might be better to test it first.
