Updated BIOS settings for your MSI motherboard.
Hello, I own a B350 TOMAHAWK motherboard. I updated my BIOS two weeks ago to the newest version, but I tried downgrading it to another release yesterday. However, it doesn’t seem to work as shown in the photo. I’m wondering if it functions at all or not. I attempted to install versions from 2019 and 2018, but none of them worked either.
You're looking to reduce the BIOS version because it seems problematic. It might be worth checking if your motherboard supports a software tool that handles the flashing from within Windows, or maybe there are alternative methods to force the older firmware update.
Remove the desolder from the bios chip, set up a program on a bios programmer, and re-solder it as a straightforward method to flash the BIOS. You might also consider using an updated version of AFUDOS for forcing a BIOS flash, or search online for techniques to do this. This discussion could be useful, though I’m unsure if Intel tools support flashing BIOS on an AMD board—worth trying.
Check for BIOS options that permit downgrading. If unavailable, you're limited to external modifications.
Yes, an outside developer is likely needed since the maker has intentionally prevented a return to a previous file version as indicated by the on-screen warning. This approach is used by many manufacturers for different reasons, though some may consider it misleading. It serves to protect against a flood of return mail requests. This example is provided to demonstrate the tool used for reprogramming a BIOS chip, but different types exist. It’s important to confirm the specific BIOS type on your board to use the correct equipment—because not all chips are identical, even if they appear similar. CH341A 24/25-Series EEPROM Flash BIOS USB Programmer+SOIC8 Chip IC-Adapter is available on eBay. Just remember, I’m not recommending you attempt this yourself; there’s a significant chance of damaging the board if a flash occurs. If you’re unsure about the process, it’s safer to leave it as it is. At least the device functions normally, which is the key point. Keep in mind that any future BIOS updates will make older versions incompatible, potentially locking you out of newer releases. If the board operates correctly now, flashing isn’t necessary.
