They’re considering a mesh network but need guidance on what to use. They’re looking for equipment under $150 and are keen to reuse their existing Linksys router. It’s helping them decide between options while trying to maintain the current setup.

Connecting multiple mesh devices of the same brand and model wireless APs to a single router while turning off Wi-Fi on that device. Installing at least two OpenWRT-compatible routers with Mesh or 802.11R support, linking them through Ethernet to the main router for 802.11R functionality.

I did this at my parents' place. I didn't want to take down the FiOS router and go through all the changes needed for the coax boxes to work again, so I turned off Wi-Fi on it. Then I connected a Netgear Orbi system and disabled NAT/DCHP, letting everything pass through smoothly. It's functioning well now.
