Hello! Here’s a clear breakdown of your situation and a simple step-by-step guide.

You have an existing SSD and an HDD, and you want to switch Windows to the SSD while keeping the HDD for things like photos. You’re unsure about the process and what happens to your old setup.

You have options for transferring your files. You can move them to the USB drive and then disconnect the HDD, or you can disconnect the HDD first and reinstall Windows on the SSD before moving files to it. In both cases, disconnect the HDD during installation. If you plan to continue using it later, relocate your files and remove the partitions from the HDD in Windows Disk Management to create a fresh partition. Then the empty HDD can serve as storage. https://www.howtogeek.com/224342/how-to-...indows-10/

You should not replicate existing systems because they may not meet your specific needs or goals.

That's a poor choice and leads to many complications later with Windows and programs.

I've never experienced any issues with that.

Don't stress too much, he often reassures people. Cloning seems like a smarter choice. Also, you can install your HDD post-installation and use it as the main drive—no format conversion required.

Your system will run smoothly on an SSD, making your HDD files unnecessary for performance. You can remove any you don’t need and retain the ones you care about, like photos or videos. Make sure your system starts correctly with the SSD and HDD connected before disconnecting the HDD. You won’t need to format the HDD; it can stay in its current state and serve as a secondary drive.

You can retain items such as images, audio, videos, files, and game saves. Just avoid saving programs. In Windows Disk Management, you can delete partitions on the HDD, which effectively resets the drive to a clean state.
