I have an Ubuntu 20.04 LTS machine with Samba configured, but it still doesn’t connect over the internet despite working locally. My ISP confirmed port 445 is open, yet I can’t access remote servers or use SFTP. I’m trying to switch the port or reroute traffic, but guides only mention adjusting "port" or "smb port" in smb.conf. It’s hard to find a suitable option.

Never send local file shares to the internet—it's extremely unsafe. Set up a VPN server on Ubuntu, connect from the remote device, and use it to reach the shared files securely.

Absolutely, it's surprising how easy that was to do. Thanks!
