You can update your public IP address through your Xfinity gateway settings or by adjusting the DHCP configuration on your bridge device. Check your router or gateway documentation for steps specific to bridge mode.

You might find someone with deeper expertise on Xfinity Gateway modems offering helpful advice. Usually, turning off your modem briefly and then reconnecting can reset your connection, allowing your ISP to assign a fresh IP address as your previous one is claimed. You can't choose a specific public IP unless you opt for a business internet plan.

Note: Using a VPN service such as Private Internet Access lets you route your traffic through their servers, effectively switching your public IP to theirs.

If you're using the Xfinity gateway in modem/router mode, it's unlikely to work. They don't support MAC address cloning. Your best option is to check the settings and see how long your DHCP lease lasts for your public IP. Make sure your modem is off and wait until the lease expires—you might get a fresh IP. Comcast assigns IPs based on the MAC address of whatever device connects to the modem. If you have both a modem and router, they function together. For me, I own my own standard modem and don't rely on the gateway. If I switched routers, I'd get a new IP from Comcast.

DCHP applies to private IP addresses, not public ones. You should reach out to your ISP or wait until the TTL expires on their end.

DHCP is a system that distributes IP addresses. Comcast doesn’t provide static IPs for home users. Yes, they employ a DHCP server. Your router includes an integrated DHCP service for your network. The image referenced is for a modem, not a modem/router setup. Refer to the DHCP section since Comcast utilizes it to assign dynamic IPs. If you're using their gateway, things are likely over. Most ISP gear doesn't handle advanced options. You might want to give them a call to check if they can assist.

Contact Comcast directly and request a DHCP release. Mention you're dealing with DOS attacks or similar issues. Companies often have temporary leases lasting minutes or hours, so waiting time depends on your connection. Most providers don't extend beyond 24 hours due to limited IPv4 addresses, making a full 24-hour shutdown a practical option. In my experience, simply reaching out to your ISP is the simplest solution.

Utilize the MAC address cloning option on your router if available. Assign the MAC address of another device on your network. This will generate a fresh IP address from Comcast. Alternatively, you can contact them directly. Be aware that IPv4 addresses have largely been exhausted, so Comcast may not be able to assign new ones. It's uncertain, but some users have shared similar experiences with varying success.
