You can modify your MAC address on the FRITZ!Box router by accessing its settings through a web browser. Look for the network configuration section, usually under "Advanced" or "Network Settings." From there, you should find options to change the MAC address. If you're unsure, check the official FRITZ!Box documentation or support resources for the 5490 model.

I'm not confident about the necessity of this action. The shift in your public IP doesn't seem connected to your MAC address. It's unclear why this change was made or what the purpose is behind it. Could you clarify the reasoning?

Unless you own a business account, you're unlikely to have a static IP from your ISP. Switching your MAC address won't help either, since it's a unique ID for your network device. Some gadgets (likely not your modem) can fake the MAC address they show. However, this wouldn't make a difference and might even disrupt your internet connection.

This update provides you with a fresh DHCP allocation from your service provider, resulting in a new public IP address.

Sure, you can simply disconnect it temporarily, and it might switch to a different one since most devices use changing IP addresses. However, the person asking wants a fresh public IP address.

The issue started because Oculus blocked my login from my personal IP address, leading me to suspect an IP ban. After testing a VPN, I regained access to my account. However, using a VPN is required for the app, so I considered manually changing my public IP. I also reached out to Oculus, but they only responded after two business days.

Typically, providers lock in contracts over days or weeks. Spectrum offers a 7-day term, whereas AT&T provides a shorter period of a few days.
