Update regarding package split pricing in Star Citizen.
Update regarding package split pricing in Star Citizen.
Many players are aware that Star Citizen's content will be divided starting February 14th. This change means the multiplayer experience (Presistent Universe) and the single-player campaign (Squadron 42, episode 1) will need to be purchased separately, not bundled together. The announcement sparked some concern among fans who were hesitant to buy the game outright because of the additional cost. Now, community manager Ben Lesnick clarified the new arrangement: after the split, you can choose either Star Citizen or Squadron 42 for $45 each, or purchase one and add the other for just $15, bringing the combined total down to $60. This explanation is also shared in a recent news post on the Star Citizen sub-Reddit. Overall, I see this as a fair approach that eases the transition for newcomers.
The price of $60 for two games seems quite reasonable. I recall hearing about rumors it could rise to $60 per single title, yet most current releases are selling around $60 with just multiplayer options like Battlefront. There’s simply not as much content as Star Citizen intends. Maybe my perspective is skewed because I’ve invested heavily in the game already, but I still believe the pricing reflects the product well.
P.S. I suggest getting it since it’s a commitment for an incomplete project—we can’t be sure it’ll be finished, but I’m fairly confident we’ll receive a significant portion of it.
