Update patchbox functionality
I found this patch on my Facebook feed. I searched the forum and saw it hasn't received much attention yet. Anyone who has used it should have shared a video from around 2015 on YouTube, so it's not brand new. Their store is linked below. They offered sizes of 35cm and 60cm.
I've encountered it before, though I haven't personally used it. It makes sense why others might value it, but I think the cost (~£450-£500) isn't justified unless you have no financial constraints (like working for a large company). In my view, it encourages complacency.
24 ports inside one cabinet... sounds great until you consider the cost.
Wow, what a surprise! Just 24 ports in a 42U cabinet... I can't even set up NIC teaming, let alone use wireless for many devices. *This is ridiculous, I haven't had a wireless network in any of my data centers.*
Truly, if you had sufficient equipment and NIC teaming enabled, you’d want several units. I don’t think there’s a solid reason to keep them based on simple estimates. Perhaps you could repurpose the chassis as an antenna to build your wireless network.
I could purchase several spools of CAT6 cable, a large number of RJ45 connectors, fresh crimpers, and even have someone on Craigslist handle the installation for multiple cabinets, leaving enough budget for a few new UniFi APs despite not needing all the wireless gear.
