Finding motivation to organize testing is tough, especially with a limited list of older titles. For games beyond the DX10/11 era, I’m having trouble recalling any pre-DX11 titles that fit the bill. A dedicated benchmark mode and free downloads would be great, as would suggestions for games from before that. The only game I can think of is GTAV, which is technically DX10/11. I’m ready to begin the download now.

Popular titles like Borderlands, Fallout, Left 4 Dead, and Far Cry were DX9. Early CoD and Battlefield games also fit the bill. AoE III is likely DX9 as well.

I own Fallout but haven't played it before. I lack the rest of my collection from that time. The oldest titles I own are 3, L4D2, and modern COD MWII. My digital archive is quite sparse from those years. Most of the games I have from that era were probably given away as freebies through sites or promotions. Are we far enough back that DVDs were still available? I began scanning a long list of DX9 games. I discovered Anno 1404 there, which I have but haven't played. If it resembles Anno 1800 with a built-in benchmark, it might be worth checking out. I'll review the remaining titles later. Otherwise, I'll skip DX9 since I don't think I can find anything usable now.
