Update of the Nvidia driver caused HDR to fade away.
Hello everyone, it seems since updating to the Nvidia game ready driver 545.84, the colors on my LG Ultragear 32GN63T-B monitor look faded when HDR is turned on. [Edit] This dimming occurs across Windows, from the desktop to all apps. [Edit] I've tried several fixes: contacted Nvidia support who suggested changing the output color format to YCbCr variants but couldn't resolve it, rolled back to driver 537.58 without success, and used the 'Nvidia Clean-up Tool' to reinstall driver 537.58, which also didn't work. I submitted a msinfo32 report (attached) and reset the system, then reinstalled Windows 11. After updating drivers and enabling HDR, the problem persists. Currently, the only workaround is to turn off HDR. I know this isn't a straightforward fix and any advice would be appreciated. I revised the previous post about users' similar updates. Another recent driver change caught my eye, so I explored the 545.84 discussion on Reddit.com/r/Nvidia. The new driver thread on /r/nvidia is usually my first place to check after a release. Take your time, read the comments, and note any problems that arise. I just noticed a fresh Windows install from Torsten—wow, quite a jump! From the article’s comments: in short, if you need a fix, create a Chrome shortcut with disable_vp_auto_hdr or try the Chrome Canary until version 119 is released. I’m currently using Windows 537.58 with my 4090 and LG C2, enabling HDR exclusively, and I won’t update just yet.
Hey there, I noticed you might have been a bit vague about your problem. All the colors on Windows—from the desktop to the apps—seem dull when HDR is turned on in the settings. I haven’t found anyone with this exact situation in the Reddit discussion, but I’ll keep an eye out for updates. Appreciate your feedback!
Make sure your SDR content brightness setting in Windows is accurate and restart the official HDR Calibration app.
