Hi Martijn, no need for a BIOS update in this case. Your setup with the MSI X470 GAMING PLUS MAX and AMD Ryzen 9 3900X should work fine without it. Just check the manufacturer’s guidelines for confirmation. Let me know if you need more details!

according to this page, https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/...upport-cpu Yes its compatible, However Caveat! The results on that page state that its compatible with V17.0 of the bios, Result : X470 GAMING PLUS MAX (MS-7B79) V17.0 BIOS Release If that is an upgrade then yes you need to do one, if its not then .... Sorry I don't own one. Just reading what I can.

Check if you can reach the seller to confirm the board comes with a BIOS that matches their system. Without contact, assume you might be purchasing outdated hardware since the Ryzen 3000 launch. Major retailers usually restock after new releases, so a board with a newer BIOS is more likely available. A compatible board will usually have a label on the box indicating this.

Below is the message from @Herman Mcpootis about motherboards compatible with MSI CPUs. It discusses which boards support your CPU choice and notes that some lack a flash BIOS button, meaning older CPUs might be needed for the latest BIOS. He mentions returning items on platforms like Amazon if they don’t have the newest BIOS, but warns it could delay installation and require additional thermal paste. He advises confirming details before purchasing. Updated April 26, 2020 by zeros.
