I'm checking for any clues to explain the issue. The update is running smoothly on the Intel 660p SSD, but it's using all storage space on the mechanical backup drive. Could there be a difference in how the system allocates resources between these drives?

This doesn't verify Steam is accessing "Disk 0" directly. Check the Windows Resource Monitor to see which processes are modifying specific directories. If your backup drive is in use, it might be handling another task while Baldur's Gate updates on the other drive.

Steam might have two library setups, possibly moving temporary files elsewhere since C isn’t large enough for a temporary download before applying a patch. If the game is on C, there’s no logical reason for Steam to act on another drive. Windows swap files could be elsewhere or even written to swap space.

I understand... it’s unclear why Op didn’t share a complete screenshot and instead used this “censored” version... maybe they had multiple “C” drives? Haha!

I experienced this problem before and found a solution. First, verify the drive you're installing has sufficient space—include the files already on it plus any downloads. Next, navigate to Steam settings and select storage. You'll see a list of drives; locate your desired drive (starting from zero). Close Steam, then access your Steam apps folder. There you'll find files named appmanifest_[id].acf. Identify the ID of your game. A simple method is to check the Steam Store URL and open the matching .acf file in Notepad. For example, with Baldur's Gate 3, it should be something like "F:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\appmanifest_1086940.acf". Move the value in 'StagingFolder' to the number we identified. Setting your cache on the fourth drive (index 3) restarted the update, and Disk Usage improved from ±50Mbps to ±2Gbps.
