I prefer to receive updates on demand rather than being forced by Microsoft, so today I thought it might be acceptable to apply the February updates on my Win10 desktops and focus on the Meltdown fix. I accessed the firewall and initiated the update... and was taken aback by the minimal changes. A flash security patch and the regular anti-malware scan. That's all? It seems unlikely... systems already have the built-in antivirus features, confirm the registry entry, restarted a few times, but no Meltdown patch appeared in the PowerShell script MS generated. Alright, I installed it manually on every machine and double-checked everything. Everything appears normal. Why the hesitation... I’ve stopped updating Win7 systems since they’re mainly used for computation and don’t handle much else. The exceptions are a few servers still running Win7/2008R2. Same situation here—they aren’t receiving the Meltdown patch by default.
